Good afternoon all,
As most of you know, the 2024 Regular Legislative Session has come to an end. I am pleased to highlight the progress we have made and to discuss several bills that I am proud of.
Senate Bill 159, “The Preserving Lawful Utilization of Services for Veterans Act,” has become law. This bill aims to enhance the benefits and services dedicated to veterans in our state. As a combat veteran, I know how important it is to help veterans in need receive the benefits they deserve. It is only fair that they have access to assistance, which will help them navigate our challenging and bureaucratic healthcare system.

During a brief break in the legislative session, I was invited by the Governor, along with a select group of my legislative colleagues, to visit with our Louisiana National Guard Soldiers deployed to the U.S. southern border in Texas. These brave men and women are helping protect our southern border while President Biden continues to ignore the problem. I know what it’s like to be deployed and away from home, so I was honored to be able to visit and be briefed on their mission. I am grateful for their service, and while I was a little skeptical about sending our men and women there in February, after seeing firsthand, I can confidently say they are protecting our border and making Louisiana proud!

I’m proud of the work we did in this session. I passed 11 bills, 3 SCRs, and 4 SRs. Over the coming weeks, I will be traveling to Senate District 33 to share the accomplishments. I always love to hear from you if you have any questions, ideas, or comments. Thank you for allowing me to represent District 33; it is an honor.
God Bless,

Senator Stewart Cathey Jr.
